Club Rules & Regulations
In addition to the Rules of the Game, as revised and adapted by the Canadian Curling Association, the Calgary Petroleum Curling Club will observe and enforce the following regulations:- Eligibility
- To be eligible to play, each oilman or annuitant must be on a payroll of the following companies: Explorations, Producing, Marketing (not including service station lessees, garages, and bulk station operators, unless on the payroll of the marketing company), Drilling, Refining, Service and Supply dealing primarily within the Oil Industry. One individual per team may be a non-oilman or annuitant but cannot hold a position higher than third unless that individual was a member of the Calgary Petroleum Curling club prior to the 1995-96 season.
- General Rules
- If a competing rink is not ready to commence play at the time named for the beginning of the match, one end shall be counted as played for every 10 minutes delay, and the opposing rink, if ready to play, shall score one point for each 10 min- utes they have been waiting, to a maximum of three (3) points. This point or points must be taken at the beginning of the game prior to commencement of play. After one half-hour has elapsed, the game will be defaulted.
- The bell will normally ring 30 minutes before you are expected to be off the ice: when the bell rings, you may complete the end you are playing and one more. For the purposes of establishing a point in play at which time one end is said to be completed and the next end commenced, our Club will use the following definition: a Curling End is said to completed when a score can be determined.
- The results of each game must be recorded on the score sheet in the ice area. Any results not recorded will be considered as a loss at the discretion of the Draw commitee.
- A team may use no more than two (2) spares; there must be at least two regular members present in additionto any spares to qualify for a win.
- Any spares will be required to play either lead or second. No spare will be allowed to throw third or skip rocks in league play or in any play-offs.
- In the case of a three man team, the first two members will throw three (3) rocks per man.
- Any protests must be registered with the executive commitee within 24 hours of the protested game during regular league games, except play-offs, at which time protests must be made immediately following the protested game and providing the opposing skip is aware that the game is being played under protest.
- The Executive Committee of the Club reserves the right to disqualify any rink violating any of the Rules and Regulations stated herein.
Canadian Curling Association Regulations
This document details the recommended implementation process for the Free Guard Zone Rule in non-supervised play only (i.e. club league play and bonspiels). There is a more comprehensive description of the Free Guard Zone Rule available for those competitions that utilize an officiating system (Rules of Curling for Supervised Play)
FREE GUARD ZONE (3 Rock)
The area between the hog line and tee line excluding the house shall be the Free Guard Zone.
- Interpretation
- A stone which comes to rest outside the rings by touching the tee line is not in the Free Guard Zone.
- Any stone(s) located within the Free Guard Zone shall not be removed from play until the delivery of the fourth and subsequent stones of the end.
- Penalty
- If a stone(s) in the Free Guard Zone is removed from play prior to the delivery of the fourth stone of the end, the non-offending team may:
-
- if it is to the advantage of the non-offending team, they may waive the Free Guard Zone penalty and continue play as if there had not been an infraction.
- remove the delivered stone from play and replace all displaced stationary stone(s) to their original position.
- If, in the delivery of the third stone of an end a stone is not in the Free Guard Zone is hit initially and as a result a stone in the Free Guard Zone is removed from play, the non-offending team may:
-
- if it is to the advantage of the non-offending team, they may waive the Free Guard Zone ddenalty and continue ddlay as if there had not been an infraction.
- remove the delivered stone from play and replace the stone removed from the Free Guard Zone to its original position. The stone that was originally hit will remain where it finally comes to rest.
- After delivery of the first two stones of an end it is the responsibility of the throwing team skip to ensure agreement with the opposing skip as to whether or not the stone has come to rest in the Free Guard Zone. If they cannot agree, they make the determination by using the six foot measuring stick. If the position of another stone hinders the use of the six foot measure they may reposition this stone to complete the measurement and replace the stone to the original postion.
In all other respects the normal rules of play shall apply.
